call for submissions!

alter space is seeking submissions of visual works that act as a sign of the times, rooted in allegory, that present as an emblem for matters of culture, identity, and politics.
we are particularly interested in works that use code, language, or symbol to abstract the personal and subvert the political. submissions may engage with semiotics, myth, ritual, bureaucracy, digital or linguistic structures, etc. we welcome works that privilege indirection over spectacle, that understand opacity as a strategy, and that allow ambiguity to operate as both shield and weapon.
alter space is interested in images that do not explain themselves, but insist on being read—slowly, allegorically, and against the grain. we are open to all visual mediums and interpretations of the thesis.
the submission deadline is january 18th.
the show will open thursday, feb 19
and run through sunday, feb 22 at alter space ( alterspace.nyc )
